The BC Federal Liberal Party is making no apologies for discouraging a man from seeking the nomination in the Okanagan Shuswap riding. Campaign co-chair Bruce Young says they're required to take the extra steps to ensure the party meets it's target of having 35 percent female candidates in the next election. He says anyone is free to take out papers but given that they're aggressively recruiting female candidates, difficult decisions have to be made. Jake Ootes says he was told not to seek the Okanagan-Shuswap riding nomination because the Party wanted a female candidate in the riding. Young says the Liberals are aggressively trying to recruit female membership in post-secondary institutions.

I understand the need to ensure proper representation of society..
However, here's a novel idea...What about let the riding putforth the best "person" instead of the Federal party interfering with the process..What the Liberal party is doing is effectively polarizing the voters.
With choices of 'winners' like Baumbrough they alienate lifelong Liberals like myself!
I would not have voted for her under any circumstances having watched her at work as a councillor
I will not support the Liberals as long as we are represented by the present local Liberal'agents'!!
I think the idea of letting the riding choose is a great blow for an improved democracy!
