Campgrounds were packed this past long weekend and another attempt is being made to create a new RV Park in the North Okanagan. O'keefe Ranch near Vernon has re-applied to the Agricultural Land Commission. Manager, Tom Danyk says there is a shortage of campgrounds and they only want to use part of a hay field. Danyk says they're in a unique situation because they can't sell the land. The Society that runs the Historic Site says they need the campground to help sustain the operation. Members of the Agricultural Land Commission will visit O'keefe Ranch next month.

The O'Keefe ranch has been offered many good ideas over the years but for some reason the people that run it have been deaf to them
So now they are crying the blues Re money woes and coming cap in hand to the good old Taxpayer for more and more!!
Perhaps there needs to be a different approach Re the ranch paying its way
Perhaps a public hearing to find out what ideas there are out there that need to be considered
Such a forum could be staged by the City when good leadership is finally evident in the near future or even better still it could be staged by the Vernon and Districts Taxpayers' Association
That would be a fitting body to stage it since it is the Taxpayer who collects and pays the bills
What sayest thou O"Keefe Ranch Board of directors?
Are you ready to think outside the box?
As a resident of the North Okanagan and a Vernon taxpayer interested in the preservation of the Historic O'Keefe Ranch, I find your comments to be very critical and negative, without any constructive suggestions, other than a forum or public hearing by the Vernon Taxpayers Association. Being a person that takes a great deal of interest in the history of BC and particular the North Okanagan, I for one would certainly be interested in the many good ideas offered over the years that the people running the ranch have turned a deaf ear to.
I believe the City of Vernon owns the ranch at this time and I have read they are working with the ranch to achieve future financial independence.
What suggestions do you have that is thinking outside the box, I am sure the City of Vernon and the ranch Board of Directors would love to hear all valid and well thought out ideas you are able to put foreword.
Unfortunately, other than offering critical and negative comments or seeking a soap box to stand on, the Vernon Taxpayers Association offers nothing...
Really??
'The Vernon Taxpayer's Association offers nothing"???
Now that is very positive!!
Quite!
Where have you been pal?
Have you not noticed the thousands of citizens who agree with the
'ISSUES' the Taxpayers'Association has been championing??
It is a fact that the people in charge of the directions the O'Keefe Ranch has been taken do not show much interest in ideas that differ from doing the Cowboy things that might involve some poetry
For a start the place lends itself to much more multiple year- round usage that would attract a much greater variety of support
What is needed is a convening of a public discussion or an invitation to submissions of ideas/suggestions to an appropriate body such as the Vernon Taxpayers who are an issues oriented body and very practical in their approach as the results they produce speak for themselves
Or have you not learned simple arithmetic yet?
Or if you are good at arithmetic why not a public discussion since it is the Public that subsidises consistently??
The public that fills the purse has every right to dicuss this ISSUE!
I have been reading the info posted on this blog since it's inception and always found this to be a great source for current political happenings.
I also think the Vernon Taxpayers Association (VTA)have brought forth and accomplished a couple of key issues for the tax payer in Vernon, as this mayor and majority of council do not seem able to understand what the voters really want.
Having said that, I must say some of the comments recently on behalf of the VTA have been somewhat rambling and radical. I am starting to loose respect and becoming fearful of VTA in the upcoming election, although I suspect these continued ramblings are coming from a fringe element, not a real spokesperson of the VTA.
When people ask others to stay focussed on Issues they can hardly be described as 'radical'
What is
'radical' is the fact that citizens through a tax association will not allow council or special interests to run roughshod while using their tax dollars
Furthermore the association spokes- people reflect the opinion of the members from day one
Also the association is grassroots and reflects all shades of opinion and that is its strength
And to the gentleman who puts down the idea of democratic rights to freedom of assembly and expression he or she is the reason we have a charter of rights else he/she would strut around thinking that such rights are only his/.hers right!
If you attack basic freedoms of citizens to expresss themselves in a real democracy then be prepared for a reaction of equal kind!
could'anonymous' be a little more specific Re the 'Rambling' and 'radical' accusation Re the Vernon Taxpayers Associaiton?
I did some work on the streets for them and found a huge support for the Association especially its founder
What is 'radical' and rambling' specifically?
Thanks
thought as much~~~
Just an empty noisy vessel!
