It looks like the days of 'cheap drink' promotions at Vernon nitespots, could be numbered. After concerns were raised by city councillor Patrick Nicol, RCMP Inspector Steve McVarnock says police are working with city council and the liquor inspector to outlaw the events, but he says the city first has to establish a bylaw. "It's got to be an equal playing field for everybody. It can't just be one business saying 'we'll charge full rates and we'll let them charge discounted rates'."McVarnock says there's no doubt the events lead to more drunkenness and impaired driving. He says Nanaimo and Victoria are cities that already have the bylaw.
