Potential sites for a new Vernon library branch will be explored in a detailed review. The Okanagan Regional Library board will hire a consultant to put together a short-list of locations. Vernon city council's library board director Patrick Nicol says any new branch is still a few years away. "Probably at the earliest late 2010, maybe 2011 (but) this is a process that must be followed if you're going to make good decisions." Nicol says the sites won't be limited to the downtown, which was the case previously. Nicol says the consultant's review will keep the process moving forward. "The report is supposed to be completed in (early) 2009. It'll give new councils an opportunity to have good information and there will be some public input as well." The library board has tentatively set May 2009 for when decisions will be made about what should be done for service in the Greater Vernon area. The library board has budgeted up to $50,000 for the review which will be conducted by Rod Cook of the firm Kent MacPherson.
