T-V network executives decided Monday that the Green Party leader will not be allowed to take part in the TV debates. Huguette Allen is the Green Party Candidate for Okanagan Shuswap and can not believe they've been shut out again... "It's interesting to think that there are no written rules about that. There is absolutely nothing that says who should be allowed and who should not be allowed. And that's why Elizabeth May wants to go to court with this because as Canadians we should know who dictates who can and cannot participate in debates." Allen says their legal advice is they have a good chance of getting it overturned because there are no rules.
Even though the Green party has their first sitting MP, Okanagan Shuswap Conservative Colin Mayes says, that's not the same as being elected. He says, the Greens are still a fringe party and he can understand the policy to keep Elizabeth May out of the televised debate. "If somebody was to do the same thing with the Marijuana party or another party would you also let that party have the opportunity to join in the debate? And that's the policy they have to decide." Mayes says he doesn't necessarily agree with the policy to not include May and he would have no problem with her participating in the debate.
