Voters will be choosing a new mayor for Coldstream on November 15th. Gary Corner has announced he won't be seeking another term after three years as mayor, and six as a councillor. "There's a lot I've really enjoyed about these nine years (3 as mayor, 6 as councillor). Obviously for me it's been quite an experience but I think you get to a point where you know you've been in long enough and it's time to move aside." The small business owner disagrees with suggestions from some residents the district is in danger of losing its rural character, with all the new development. "I really don't think so."In the nine years I've been in, 95 percent of the developments that happened were already on the books. It was nothing any of the councils I sat on created. What drove that was the price of real estate going up to a point where these developers starting doing the developments because it made financial sense." Corner has heard a few rumours about who may run for mayor this fall, and hopes some "good candidates" will step forward.
