It looks like it could take longer to remove dumpsters from Vernon's downtown. The plan was to get rid of the unsightly bins by November 1st, but DVA president Mary Jo O'Keefe says that's not likely to happen as NORD isn't ready to start the recycling component. In a news release, the DVA accuses the regional district of "dropping the ball". NORD chairman Jerry Oglow tells KISS FM, they still want to provide the service, but may need more time. "I think some discussion will be happening shortly to see if there's opportunities to change that date (but) she's (O'Keefe) absolutely right. I think simultaneous implementation would be appropriate." Oglow says NORD is waiting for legal advice on the process, and can't speculate when that will conclude. Oglow says NORD officials will meet with the DVA Friday to clear the air on the issue. The DVA is also critical of the waste hauling companies with O'Keefe saying they haven't been cooperative on providing costs and changeover procedures.
