A Kamloops hotel and casino remained closed yesterday after a fire broke out Saturday. About two dozen hotel guests and a number of casino-goers were evacuated from the Executive Inn and adjacent Lake City Casino after the fire broke out in a second-storey storage room. Kamloops Fire Rescue operations chief Andy Philpot said everyone was evacuated safely and only two people, both hotel employees, were treated on the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation, then released. The call came in at 4:18 p.m., Philpot told The Province, and a crew of 21 firefighters extinguished the blaze in about a half-hour. "When the fire crews got there, we had flames showing out the back window of the hotel," said Philpot. The 150-room hotel in the 500-block Victoria Street was undergoing annual fall renovations, so there were fewer than average guests staying in the rooms. Philpot said the hotel staff found rooms in other Kamloops hotels for the displaced guests. "There was smoke through the whole building," said Philpot, who was not able to say when the hotel would be reopened. A fire inspector had walked through the building yesterday afternoon, said Philpot. Arson is not suspected.
