Starlee Speers-Vernon 105.7 SUNFM:
The North Okanagan Regional district has appointed a new administrator, without having advertised the position either internally or externally. Vernon Mayor Wayne Lippert says while he supports Greg Betts, he believes there should have been opportunity for other candidates to apply. "The board decided not to do that. They looked internally and went to Mr. Betts knowing he had qualifications from his experience. The final decision was to go to Mr. Betts to see if he'd be interested in that position." Betts is the former administrator of Coldstream and is currently the Manager of Electoral area services. He'll replace outgoing NORD administrator Brian Reardon in a position that paid over $150,000 last year.

105.7 KISSFM Pete McIntyre: Nord boss hired; process questioned
Vernon's mayor is raising questions about the process used to fill the top position with the North Okanagan Regional District. Greg Betts has been appointed as the new administrator after serving as the general manager of electoral area services. Mayor Wayne Lippert is concerned the board didn't go through the normal application process. "I personally thought we should have posted it internally and externally. We needed to be open to the public and post it at least internally to see if other members of the staff within the regional district, and outlying areas, might have been interested in the job." Lippert says the decision to hire Betts and approve his contract was made Wednesday and was unanimous but the decision on the hiring process was made several weeks ago and resulted in a "split" vote. Betts officially starts is job January 5 but has already started his new duties, as current administrator Brian Reardon is said to be on holidays. Reardon starts a new job with a regional district in Campbell River next month.
