More room has been made for seniors in the North Okanagan with the opening of an expansion to a care facility. On Saturday Minister of Health Services, George Abbott, joined Interior Health and community officials to open of the expansion to Pleasant Valley Manor, a seniors’ care facility in Armstrong. “Across the province, our government has built over 12,400 new and replacement beds and units since 2001, providing seniors with more options for best quality care within their home communities,” says Abbott. He says 42 residential care beds were added to Pleasant Valley Manor, bringing the total number of residential care beds to 82. The two-story cottage style addition has two nine-bed houses and two 12-bed houses. Each of these houses is self-contained with dining and lounge areas. All residents have private bedrooms with en-suite washrooms. “Residents moving into these new beds will not only have excellent staff looking after them, but they will also have a warm, inviting and comfortable environment to call their home,” says Norman Embree, Interior Health Board Chair. The expansion project cost approximately $10.2 million. The North Okanagan/Columbia Shuswap Regional Hospital District funded 40 percent of the project, with the Government of British Columbia, through Interior Health, funding the remaining 60 percent.
