Facebook comments lead to assault

by Rachael Kimola -Apr 19, 2009 / 8:30 am CASTANET:

Two young men could be facing some serious charges as a result of comments made on Facebook. Vernon RCMP are investigating a report of a forcible entry and assault which occurred April 3 at an apartment in the 2900 block of 43rd Avenue. RCMP spokesperson, Gord Molendyk, says they are still trying to put together the details of the incident. “A 19-year-old man was treated for injuries to his scalp and hand after he was allegedly assaulted by an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old youth. The two suspects allegedly intimidated the victim with a gun, which is why there was a delay in the incident being reported,” says Molendyk. He says they believe the assault was the result of a previous assault and some comments put on Facebook, although the nature of the comments or who they were directed at isn’t known. Charges against the two suspects have not been approved, but Molendyk says they could include forcible entry, assault or weapons charges.
