New Slot Machine Limit

Peter McIntyre Tuesday, 12 May 2009 17.5 KISSFM:
Just in time for Vernon's larger casino to open, the city has adopted a bylaw allowing more slot machine. The limit is 400, up from the earlier 300 set last year. Councillor Buffy Baumbrough supported the new limit, despite being against it last time. "When we were first discussing the number of slot machines that were allowed, it was part of a negotiation (for money for a social responsibility fund) with the BC Lottery Corporation, and as that obviously isn't going to be successful, I'm alright with the 400 slot machines, going back to the original intent of the bylaw." Councillor Bob Spiers was the lone opponent to the higher limit. Lake City plans to have 400 slot machines at its new site in north Vernon.
