Door to Door Warning

North Okanagan Mounties are warning about a door to door marketing campaign they say is using agressive and questionable tactics. RCMP Spokesman Gord Molendyk says the product for sale is home alarm systems from companies called Liberty, A-P-X and Pinnacle. He says up to 25 salespeople representing the three alarm companies are canvassing neighborhoods. Molendyk says police have received a number of complaints about the sales tactics and Vernon bylaw enforcement is looking into it.

Police say a marketing campaign in Greater Vernon may not be illegal but the tactics are questionable. RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says they've had a number of complaints about door to door alarm system sales reps who are very aggressive, and almost forceful. "They (sales people) are going (to homes) multiple times. I know one case where they claim they went to a house four times. They also do not pay attention to signs that say no soliciting."Molendyk says the companies are U-S based and go by the names of Liberty, APX and Pinnacle. He says the companies have taken out a Vernon license to do the marketing. His advice is not feel pressured into buying something, and if you don't feel comfortable, tell them to leave your residence.
