Vernon-Monashee’s new MLA can officially get down to business. Eric Foster will be sworn into office during a ceremony in Victoria Monday and he says that gives him the green light to start pursuing local issues. “Why I am going there is to represent the concerns of Vernon-Monashee,” he said. Foster was part of the Liberal sweep of the Okanagan Valley during the provincial election May 12. As part of assuming duties, Foster has established a constituency office on 31st Avenue, across from the parkade. He will maintain the two employees that worked for former MLA Tom Christensen. “Can you imagine starting out with a new office and new staff?” he said. “For them, it’s just a different guy at the end of the desk and they can carry on.” Foster has also had a one-one-one meeting with Premier Gordon Campbell. “Nothing particular was discussed. It was a chance to meet us,” he said of the new MLAs. “He asked me why I ran and what I want to see done.” Foster says there was no discussion about whether he wants a cabinet seat, and he admits that may be too much to take on at this time. “I’d like to get my feet wet and see how government operates,” he said. “Whatever role they give me is great. There are all kinds of committees to sit on.”
