The last of the big forest fire evacuations in B-C is being lifted. Officials say 15-hundred people forced from their homes by the Terrace Mountain wildfire southwest of Kelowna will be allowed to return starting at noon Wednesday, leaving only 18 people under an evacuation order. The 91-square-kilometre blaze is now 75 per cent contained. The only residents that will still be evacuated are those living at Fintry High Farm and the District lots off South Terrace Main.
The residents going home tomorrow will still be on evacuation alert. There will be a controlled re-entry conducted by the RCMP, and after that's over, Westside Road will again be completely accessible from the north to the south. However, there won't be any access to the areas still under evacuation.Meanwhile, evacuation alerts and orders have been lifted in the Pemberton, Merritt and Quesnel areas because of a diminishing threat from several fires.
