Vernon Biosolids Money

Kate Bouey - Vernon Tue, 2009-08-11 09:32. 105.7 SUNFM:

Vernon council has okayed an almost two-million dollar upgrade and expansion of the city's biosolids composting facility. The plant treats thousands of tons of sewage sludge from Vernon and Kelowna.City Councillor Mary-Jo O'Keefe says council has been advised the expansion will help with odour problems. Council rejected the Central Okanagan Regional District's request to become a partner in the treatment scheme. Councillor Patrick Nicol says more testing in residential areas should have been done before council okayed the expansion. Councillor Bob Spiers says Vernon doesn't want to become ``a dumping ground'' for the whole Valley.
