Mayor; Councillor Election In Lumby

Voters in Lumby pick a mayor and a councilor Saturday in a byelection.The vote was called to replace Eric Foster who stepped down in May after being elected MLA. Seven candidates are seeking the councillor's spot, with two running for mayor. Massage therapist Kevin Acton stepped down as councillor, to run against semi retired carpenter Walter Ozero creating the need for the council vote.

The seven candidates for the councilor's position are: Brad Andres, Matt Boos, Stephanie McCluskey-Davyduke, Janet Green, Nick Hodge, Woody Kuraoka and Julie Pilon.The positions will start August 31 and run until the next civic elections in November 2011. Administrator Frank Kosa says there's about 1,200 eligible voters.68 people cast ballots in the advance vote on August 5, which is about 6 percent.The polls will be open at the village office from 8am til 8pm Saturday.
