Pontoon AAP falls short

The unofficial number of signatures received at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 7 for the pontoon breakwater and public pier Alternate Approval Process is approximately 3,000. This number is well below the 10 per cent of electors, or 9,280 valid signatures, requiring City Council to hold a referendum in order to proceed with project. The Process, which began on June 29, officially closed at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 7. All signatures will be validated over the weekend to confirm the final number. The official results will be presented to City Council at the regular Council meeting on Monday, August 10. The provincial Community Charter required the City to receive citizen approval for the potential capital cost of liability, which would be covered by the City’s insurance coverage.
