The Terrace Mountain Fire is now almost completely contained.The BC Forest Service reports the month old human-caused blaze is 98 percent contained as of Sunday, adding great progress is being made, and the area received lots of rain.The fire size is still listed as 9,277 hectares.
Residents may notice smoke coming from the fire zone the next few days.Fire information officer Don Ferguson told KISS FM on Friday, a burn-off of 25 to 30 hectares of fuel within the fireguards was expected to take place, once the area dried out.The firefighting effort is ahead of the earlier schedule which Ferguson said was to have it 100 percent contained by Aug 23, and fully controlled (out) by September 7.At one point 650 personnel were working the fire southwest of Vernon, there's now 388.All of the evacuation alerts and orders were lifted by emergency official on Friday.
