With increased activity and behavior of the Terrace Mountain wildfire this afternoon, an Evacuation Order has been signed affecting approximately 1,200 residents in the Fintry Short Notice Evacuation Area. Residents from Muirallen Estates, Fintry Delta, Upper Fintry/Dunwaters Estates, Valley of the Sun and La Casa are asked to leave their homes and head south along Westside Road. RCMP will have a roadblock set up at Baziw Orchards on the north side of the Evacuation area, directing all traffic from the Evacuation area south toward Kelowna.Evacuated residents are being asked to register with the Emergency Social Services reception centre that is being set up at Mount Boucherie Senior Secondary School, 2751 Cameron Road in West Kelowna. That’s where they will receive assistance with food and lodging.
Ten properties in the Fintry High Farm area are still on Evacuation Order. Approximately 13 residents are affected.
The Emergency Operation Centre reminds that all other Evacuation Orders and Alerts remain in effect in communities along Westside Road as a result of the Terrace Mountain forest fire.
Residents and visitors to Westside Road communities from the Wilson Landing/Trader’sCove area on the south to the Westshore/Beau Park area in the north including the District lots on Terrace Mountain remain on Alert while those in the Caesar’s Landing and Killiney areas remain on Short Notice Alert. These alerts affect an estimated 2,500 people who must be prepared to leave on a moment’s notice should the fire threat increase.
