About 100 people gathered in Vernon for a 'Stop The HST' rally at the courthouse over the weekend. They carried signs and drew hundreds of honks from passing drivers.Green Party provincial and federal candidate Huguette Allen was among the speakers. She says the tax will help smaller businesses, but her party is upset at the way Premier Campbell introduced it."We felt it was something that should have been brought to the Legislature and discussed because right now this way this has been brought on board, it really does look like a big tax grab. People had no say in it. It was just dictated from the Premier. "The event on Saturday was among more than dozen anti HST rallies around BC.
Meantime, a separate Vernon rally Sunday at the same site, drew a few people and was urging the opposition parties to force a fall election over the Conservatives lack of concern for climate talks.

So Allen thinks the HST is a great idea and only think the Liberals should have told us about it differently? The more she talks the more she shows her bizarreness. I thought the Green Party was for the little people and not big business?
In the article it mentions her saying that it will help smaller businesses, which is true because of the removal of one level of tax collection, reporting and remittance. Where are you getting the big business comment from?
Ask the restaurant owners, hairdressers and other small businesses that now will have to charge their customers and additional 7 percent if it helps them. "In Vancouver, small business owners and families made up the crowd, many carrying signs including "Don't bleed us dry; "More taxes, more lies;" and "Fight the HST."
Obviously Allen is clueless about the affect this tax will have on small businesses and just wants the exposure. She gets away with saying some very stupid things and all her Kool-Aid drinking Greenies chime along.
