Soccer Group Gets Help With Debt

IndoorSoccer

A local sports group is getting some assistance to pay off its debt. Regional parks manager Al McNiven says the Vernon Soccer Association was originally given ten years to pay back its costs on the indoor soccer facility in Marshall Park."We thought that the ten year amortization period was pretty aggressive right from day one, so all they're going to do is amend the agreement with the regional district and they'll play back the debt (to NORD) over 17 years, rather than ten."The recommendation by the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee still has to be approved by NORD. McNiven says the group has seen less revenues than anticipated from the facility, while some costs like utilities and insurance have soared."They also ran into a difficult construction time cost wise, and they had some projections that it would generate a certain amount of revenue in their off season which is April to September, and that has not worked out."The indoor centre was opened in 2007.The regional district provided the site and owns the facility. The Association manages it and pays the operating costs.

The soccer association has done a great job.Greater Vernon should subsidize the annual cost as well as extend the repayment period. This is a facility for our youth! Greater Vernon makes so many mistakes and wastes so much money. Stop paying the representatives on the board. Look at the last decision-only healthy food at the multi-purpose until they saw how much money thet would lose, and the threat of losing the concession people!
