DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)

Bertles on Budget
Tue, 2009-12-22 12:54. Kate Bouey - Vernon 105.7 SUNFM:Vernon city council will be faced with a 3.8-million dollar wish list from division managers when they begin 2010 budget consultations next month. Finance Manager Kevin Bertles says service requests were kept out of the proposed 24-million dollar budget. Bertles says the police have asked for two more part-time support staff and there are big budget I-T-infrastructure requests. He says a big change will be charging each division a ``carbon emissions levy'' to apply to a new bill on greenhouse gas emissions. He says it will probably come in at under 100-thousand dollars for the year.
------------
Don Quixote Note: The service level requests that are not in this 0% budget can be found starting at page 132 of the budget document located at 2010-2014 City of Vernon Proposed Financial Plan.
(There are 84 such service requests- recap as to $3,884,530 can be found starting at page 127) (Please read them and feel free to make comments on those you would support or oppose . Give us your top 10 you would support or oppose) Last year each $160,000 worth of expenditures caused the tax bill for the average house and business to be raised by 1%. At that rate the total service level requests of $3,884,530 represent about an increase of 24.27%. (Actually some of the requests can be financed through existing equipment reserves but the vast majority if approved would have to raise taxes.)
