A BC Supreme Court Justice needs more time to make a decision over logging in the Brown's Creek area west of Vernon. Representatives from Tolko and the Okanagan Nation Alliance attended a meeting with the judge this afternoon in Vancouver to provide her with more information. A decision was expected today over the Alliance's efforts to block Tolko from logging, which native leaders say will damage their watershed and historical artifacts but that's now been postponed until December 18th.
Okanagan Indian Band Chief Fabian Alexis attended the meeting but has no idea which way the judge may be leaning. "I couldn't really tell at all. It's a situation where the judge is pretty solemn and the arguments of both sides, were both pretty good." Both sides have filed for injunctions. Tolko's Okanagan Woodlands manager Mark Tamas says the judge is seeking further clarity on a number of issues. "Our legal counsel will sit down with them and address the questions. She's provided both parties two weeks to make their submissions and getting back together on the 18th for further direction."
