Deadly motor vehicle crashes were up by more than 100 percent around the North Okanagan last year. RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says 16 people died in accidents in 2009, compared to seven the previous year. "We are concerned about that high number, so for 2010 the traffic section advises they will be looking at enforcement in some of the areas where they hopefully reduce the number of fatals."Molendyk says a "large number" of the fatal crashes involved motorcycles. He says there wasn't one road or intersection that was a specific problem area.
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)

37 Impaired Charges
Some sobering statistics from the local Counter Attack program over the holiday season. Police say 37 impaired driving charges were laid in December in the Vernon area. The RCMP's Gord Molendyk says the 37 charges is higher than last year but he's not sure by how many. "What it does show is that individuals are still driving under the influence. (Even) with all publicity that is out there, individuals still appear to want to take chances." Three of the charges came from rotating roadblocks held on New Year's Eve. The highest breathalyser reading from a suspected drunk driver was point-three-one (.31), which is almost four times the legal limit.
