Vernon City Councillors have some tough decisions to make as they hear from department heads about budget requests. Fire Chief Jeff Carlisle wants two more firefighters at the downtown hall, a dispatch technology upgrade and a new firehall at Predator Ridge, with about 16 paid on-call volunteers. The department's budget is in the 4-million dollar range with 66 per cent of all their calls First Medical Response. The head of the Vernon RCMP detachment says he'll be seeking some cash from council to hire a part-time intel analyst. But Superintendent Reg Burgess says council has been fairly generous in past years. Burgess says he's also seeking a salary hike for the detachment's new inspector, who'll be in charge of operations.
