Vernon RCMP say they are temporarily having to reduce office hours at their detachment. The hours of the front counter had been expanded from 8 am to 8pm just a month ago, but have now been changed to 8:30 to 4:30. RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says the change was made due to a lack of trained front desk personnel. "It's going to be for a time period that were not 100 percent sure on how long right now. We are trying to quickly have it rectified so we can be be open from 8 am to 8pm." Molendyk says people needing to make contact with an officer after the normal hours can use a phone in the detachment lobby. "The call goes right through to Kelowna and if there's an officer in the stations which there is most of the time, they can have that officer come to the door."
