District 22 Budget

Budget talks begin Wednesday for School District 22 board members and they have been warned there could be a possible 2.5-million dollar shortfall. That means the board must find cuts and chairman Bill Turanski admits there could be some layoffs. Vernon Teachers Association boss Bruce Cummings says the board faces an unenviable task. Local CUPE boss Mark Olsen, who represents many of the non-teaching employees at the district, says more cuts will directly affect students. A number of heating and roofing projects have been cancelled at Vernon area schools and Olsen questions the health and safety of students.
