Vernon Charities End Campaigns

The 2009 campaign for the North Okanagan Columbia Shuswap United Way has closed and has come in far short of its ambitious goal. Executive Director Linda Yule says that, so far, just over 166-thousand dollars has been collected. The target had been 400-thousand dollars. Some corporate donations are still to come in. Yule says the hard-hit Columbia Shuswap region did not fare well in the campaign. The Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation's Light-a-Bulb campaign is also closing 15-thousand dollars short of its 200-thousand dollar goal. Chairperson Elise Allan says there was concern the target was too aggressive but, in the end, the Foundation is pleased with the results.
