The MLA For Vernon Monashee says all aspects of the economy are facing financial hardships, not just school districts. Eric Foster (pictured) was responding to concerns raised by the Vernon school board to the Education Minister about provincial downloading and grant cutting. "We've asked everybody to sharpen their pencils as much as they can, and if there's situations where the health, safety and well being of the students is in jeopardy, then the Minister will certainly look at those individual cases." Foster says the government is in tough as they don't have a huge amount of money coming in. "Extreme financial hardship is certainly the appropriate description of the whole economy right now and school districts are no different than anybody else. We're in tough times." The school district is expecting a shortfall of 2.5 million dollars.
