A new wave of debit fraud maybe hitting the North Okanagan. Few details are known, but Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says they are just beginning to get reports of a possible skimmer scheme that may be effecting people in the Vernon area. “We don't have a lot of information right now, but we would encourage people, as always, to be vigilant with their debit cards, to check their accounts and report any suspicious activity to their financial institution and then to the police,” says Molendyk. He says he is starting to get reports of several transactions from the Lower Mainland. A tip sent to Castanet News says the money may be being withdrawn in Surrey and is affecting accounts from several of the major financial institutions.
