Update on Truck-House Crash

Police have made some progress in trying to find the man who drove a stolen truck into a Vernon house. The RCMP's Gord Molendyk says officers have been trying to track down a suspect since the incident January 30th at 24th Ave and 23rd Street in East Hill. He says they now have a person of interest. "We have a name of an individual we would like to be in contact with." Molendyk says they are following up after a person tried to recover the dog found in the truck, from the dog pound. The truck went into the side of a home on 24th Ave, startling the residents who were sleeping two rooms away. The driver fled the scene without his dog.

Meantime, it looks like changes will be made to make that intersection safer. Councillor Bob Spiers raised concerns with city staff about several vehicle crashes into the house on 24th Ave in East Hill over a number of years, including one involving fatalities. "The engineering staff indicated they are in a process of doing a project around that area and they will address it, and they think they can come up with a good way of calming the traffic through barricades or something like that." Spiers says it looks promising for improvements to be made in the spring.

Based on the so-called traffic improvements we've seen over the last few years in East Hill, I can hardly wait to see what they come up with for this one.
