I totally disagree with the plans that Kim Flick, manager of planning and building services, has for the upcoming redeveloping of the Vernon Medical Clinic property on 31st Avenue. After living in the mainland Vancouver for 21 years I witnessed first hand what adding green space with washrooms will do. I know first hand from being a cleaner to those park washrooms with the City of Vancouver. The druggies and homeless use these washrooms, not the average child or public. Have you ever noticed how many people actually use the Cenotaph Park? Not enough to add another park to connect to it that's for sure. Once a year that park actually has people in it, on Nov. 11. I'm not trying to run down anyone in our society either except the big guys in positions who spend our tax paying dollars without us voting on it first.
What we need here in Vernon is more affordable housing. There are more people who are economically deprived than there are not. My suggestion is to go with affordable housing. Wouldn't it give you big guys a tax break? Put up a building that has stores/offices below to keep the foot traffic spending their money in Vernon and put affordable units above it. If that isn't up your alley than make it loft style condos which are very popular in every city and sell them. You can always add a green space to that new building on the roof top deck for all the residents and tenants to enjoy! There, green space downtown, problem solved!

Good letter in the Morning Star. I don,t know that I would blame this on Kim Flick-I blame the administrator, the treasurer and coucil. The purchase for park purposes was absurd, and the proposed expenditures are even more absurd.
Fair comments from an interesting perspective.
But you only need to go into the public library and if you need to go to the bathroom, you find that you need to be let in. Why is that?
Because the same thing happened over there with the druggies.
Too bad the library staff didn't take pix of the damage the druggies did to those bathrooms before they instituted that policy.
Show 'em to whoever made this decision.
