Bella Vista

There's to be a second public hearing on the Bella Vista West Neighbourhood plan. Vernon city council has recognized residents' opposition to a developer's plans for a high density apartment building on steep hillside and given second reading to an amended option which would designate that land as low density. Councillor Patrick Nichol says everyone, including the developer, gets a say at the hearing -- to be held in May.

Most of council has expressed support for a five-year program of improvements on the Polson-Greenway project which will add trees and pathways, as well as upgrade infrastructure from Polson Park to the Village Green Mall. The 1.27-million dollar first phase takes place this year on 29th Street between 43 and 46th Avenues. Councillor Patrick Nichol says some of those businesses have been in the area for years and they have concerns about parking being taken from them. Nichol says staff's assurances have allayed some of his concerns. Most of council has given its support to the five-year greening plan. Councillor Bob Spiers did not.
