If Kelowna fire chief Rene Blanleil gets his way, a new fire hall will be ready for use by 2016 in Glenmore. The new fire hall (Hall #5) is one of several items contained in the fire department's 10-year Strategic Plan.
The 10-year plan, which will be presented to council Monday, also calls for replacement of several pieces of equipment including:
The plan also calls for the hiring of 20 new career firefighters to be phased in over a four year period beginning in 2013. Those firefighters would be stationed at the main hall until transferring over to the new Glenmore Fire Hall in 2016. In his Strategic Plan, Blanleil says a new Glenmore hall should be built close to a proposed Glenmore/Highway 97 connection to allow for straightforward east/west access leading to north/south routes on both Highway 97 and Glenmore Road. Blanleil recommends a site be acquired by 2012 with construction, estimated to cost about $3 million, beginning in 2014.
