Police in Vernon had what they call a "scary encounter" with a prolific offender. Spokesman Gord Molendyk says a man in a stolen truck rammed and totaled an unmarked cop car near 23rd Avenue in Mission Hill around 1:30 this afternoon. The collision knocked one of the front wheels off the truck but the driver sped away on three wheels . Officers followed the scrape marks and road damage to 15th Ave near Willow Drive. Molendyk says, "When the police service dog team pulled up behind the truck, , he saw the back up lights come on and our officers felt his vehicle was going to be rammed as well. The suspect then jumped from the truck and took off running through the creek. The dog handler ordered the man to stop, and said he had a police dog. The suspect continued to run and the dog was able to capture him a short distance away." A 38 year old man is being treated for injuries suffered in the incident. He had five outstanding warrants and will be facing several charges possibly including assault with a weapon, flight from police and possession of stolen property over $5,000.No police officers were hurt.
