I see numerous city employees standing around watching while others do the work, the old adage one shovel two watching.here is an example:Yesterday in the morning (Monday) in the vacant lot next to buy low here in the Landing were two bylaw officers digging up noxious weeds.(thistles). Now i know the weeds are a concern but in my 20 years of bylaw enforcement i never have dug a weed. I would take a picture for evidence and the such. One was watching and the other digging and I saw them take them away and were showing onlookers all about weeds.

Now at 29 dollars an hour or so, I think they could spend their time more usefull. I know there is a protocol for complaints but like I say i never went as far as to dig them myself. That is where hiring contractors come in at a lessor cost and the billing goes to the property owner. Now i realize summer people have been hired perhaps to do this at say 15 dollars an hour but I, on disability pension could sure use that hourly wage spread over a time period to supplement my limited pension, or maybe they could come across the street to my house and weed my property of the noxious weeds. Time for cut backs on all fronts an kudos for Mr. Spiers for bringing this to the forefront.
