While most British Columbians were reeling from the effects of the recession in much of 2009, the province’s business elite came through relatively unscathed with B.C.’s top earner, John Macken of Ivanhoe Mines, bringing in almost $10 million, just under what last year’s top earner, Macken’s colleague Robert Friedland, received. And like last year, all of the 100 highest paid executives in the province were awarded pay packages worth more than $1.2 million. But what has changed, and not for the better, is the number of women making The Vancouver Sun’s Top 100 list. Last year six women made the cut-off, up from none just three years ago. In fiscal 2009, the trend reversed with only one woman, clothing retailer lululemon athletica’s CEO Christine Day, making the Top 100.
