Friday, July 2nd, is the last day to pay City of Vernon property taxes and city hall is open between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm for people leaving it to the last minute. A spokesperson in the City's finance department says an estimated 30 percent of taxes is still outstanding. She says there are also drop boxes outside city offices and stresses it must be in by July 2nd...postmarks on mail don't count.

When are taxes due? (City of Vernon)
Property taxes cover the fiscal year - January 1 to December 31 - and are due the first business day in July. Under the Community Charter, the municipality must charge a 10% penalty on late taxes. The City of Vernon charges a 10% penalty on the first working day after the tax due date.
