Running a red nets driver more jail time

A Victoria man found out the hard way it doesn't pay to run a red light. An RCMP officer was at the intersection of 27th Street and Highway 6 about 10 p.m. Tuesday night when he spotted a red Toyota Corolla run a red light. Police spokesman Gord Molendyk says the officer checked the vehicle and discovered it had been reported stolen out of Vancouver on July 7. "The vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as 49-year-old Glen Kernohan from Victoria," says Molendyk. "Further police checks learned the suspect was wanted on a Canada wide warrant." Kernohan remains in custody. A charge of possession of stolen property under $5,000 was laid against him as well. He is expected to make his next court appearance August 18 to answer to this latest charge.
