More than 700 people filled Saint Patrick's Basilica in downtown Ottawa for the memorial service Wednesday morning of a local RCMP officer who died on duty. Const. Michael Potvin went missing after the RCMP boat he and another officer were in capsized in the Stewart River near Mayo, Yukon, on July 13. They had been taking a police boat for a test run. The other officer had stayed with the overturned boat and was rescued, but Potvin disappeared in the river as he tried to swim to shore. His body was found on Friday. Potvin would have turned 27 years old on Wednesday, the day of his memorial service. RCMP officers and emergency services personnel from across the country attended the service with Potvin's friends and family.
