VICTORIA – The government is awarding $280,000 in special community gaming grants to two non-profit organizations – the British Columbia Original Minds Association (BCOMA) and the British Columbia Search and Rescue Association (BCSARA). The BCOMA will receive $100,000 for its Destination Imagination program, which helps students develop creative problem-solving skills, as well as organizational and teamwork skills through team competitions.
The BCSARA will receive $180,000 to fund liability insurance for local volunteer search and rescue groups. “Every day 2,500 trained volunteers are willing to put their lives on the line to save people who are missing or injured in British Columbia,” said Don Bindon, president of the BCSARA. “We appreciate that the province is supporting their work by providing third-party liability insurance for the search and rescue societies and associations these volunteers belong to.”
