Human remains discovered in Lumby

Human remains found in Lumby sometime in the past week are now being examined by the coroners service. While RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk couldn't say exactly where the remains had been discovered, he could confirm officers and the coroner had been called. "Lumby is currently investigating a case where old human remains were found within the last week or so," says Molendyk. "The remains were turned over to the coroner and it is the coroners case. I am under the understanding that the coroner is probably going to use the DNA for a positive identification." Lumby resident Cory Romanick, 21, disappeared from his home at 1440 Trinity Valley Road on June 21, 2009. He had walked away from his home and RCMP believe he died in the immediate area. Extensive ground searches for Romanick had been unsuccessful. More information on the discovery of the remains will likely be released Monday, says Molendyk.
