Vernon's fire chief is pleased with progress on starting a new volunteer fire hall at Predator Ridge. Jeff Carlisle says the current response time from downtown to the resort is 20 to 25 minutes. He says that's too long especially with the risk of wildfires in that forested area. "So the idea is to get a volunteer fire department up there and put the campfire out before it becomes a full blown forest fire." Carlisle says a site near the maintenance area has been chosen for a fire hall, and recruitment of volunteers is continuing. "We started with trying to recruit staff from Sparkling Hill Resort and the golf resort but that didn't work out and know we're looking at trying to recruit residents. We've also got a conceptual site identified for the fire station." He says the service is in the city's plan to possibly be running by 2013. Meantime, Carlisle says Vernon Fire-Rescue has responded to just over 1,300 calls over the first six months this year. 75 percent were medical responses, 13 percent for fires, and 9 percent on motor vehicle incidents.

For a six (6) month period the Fire Chief is stating that out of the 1300 fire calls, 75% were for medical reasons. That would equate to 975 calls or 5.5 calls per day for the same period.
Where is the Ambulance service if that is the case and is this just duplicity by the fire hall?
It should also be noted that in most cases when one sees and Ambulance going to a call, it is generally 4 to 6 minutes before a fire dept. pickup follows as a general rule from my observations in Vernon.
Oh Robert, you have no idea!! I challenge you to have a face to face meeting with the numerous survivors that are alive thanks to the fire department!! and at the 5 minute mark, the fire department is already clearing the scene!! that could have been an OK Landing truck you saw!! get real!Once again, LOOK INTO IT, IT IS ALL FACTS!!! Are you sick of this crap yet City Coucil? Do the right thing.
