Fire Dispatch Upgrade

Close to 100-thousand dollars has been budgeted this year to upgrade Vernon's fire dispatch system. Fire chief Jeff Carlisle says it's the first part of a four year plan costing $450,000. He says once it's completed, the service will cover Vernon, and could be offered to other communities as well. "That's not so much for profit but to help sustain the system." Carlisle says the current system is 20 years old and in bad need of a capital injection.

Council approved on Monday the following items from the fire dispatch reserve account:

*$5,000 for a consultant study by Dave Mitchell and Associates for fire dispatch system design, transition plan and cash flow analysis *$30,000 for complete dispatch centre renovations and purchase workstations *$5,000 to repair and secure system wiring *$2,000 for project travel and research $50,000 for a communication system study
