New School Damaged, Update

Peter McIntyre Monday, 27 September 2010 10:05
School District 22 officials say the damage was between $10,000 and $15,000 and they don't anticipate any major delays in opening the new school.

The expected opening of the new Coldstream elementary school will likely be delayed after someone went on a vandalism spree.  A suspect or suspects spray painted inside walls, doors and electrical panels overnight Saturday. The RCMP's Gord Molendyk says the damage will take some time to clean up.
"They wrote words and drawings that were totally inappropriate for an elementary school." The damage is estimated at $70,000,  and it comes just days before the new school was to be completed. Molendyk says there's some indication the culprit may have used a key to get in. "They're looking at was it a key that got the individuals in, because you have to appreciate it's a construction site, so there could be a number of construction keys. Not saying this happened but sometimes on a construction site, there's a key hidden, I don't know if that's the case. There's no indication on the file there was a break-in at this point." Police have no suspects and are asking anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers.
"Don't know if its a disgruntled employee or teenagers, although some of the graffiti and work that was done would make you believe it was someone probably a little bit younger."
