We're Not Freeloading Communities comment on police costs

Armstrong Mayor Chris Pieper says he's not aware that his community is ``freeloading'' off of Vernon when it comes to policing costs. Pieper was asked to comment on Mayor Wayne Lippert's contention that Vernon is subsidizing others involved in the RCMP's integrated approach in the North Okanagan, especially on the support side. Coldstream Mayor Jim Garlick says the issue is dealt with at the provincial level and talks are happening right now. And Garlick points out his District has one of the lowest crime rates in the province which could be one reason why costs are so much lower. He says Coldstream would like to have more policing and that there are not enough officers to fill the positions.

Has the fact that there are not enough officers to fill the position been advertised as a need?
