Casino Workers Seek New Deal

Slot machinesLake City Casino is getting ready for contract talks with its employees in the Okanagan and Kamloops  The 376 workers at four outlets -- including 87 in Vernon---are members of the BC Government and Service Employees Union.  The union's Brian Gardiner says three weeks of bargaining will start November 15th in Kelowna.  "Without revealing what we'll be looking at at the table, obviously, we'll be looking at improvments to the collective agreement." The current three year deal for casino dealers, servers, security and cashiers ran out at the end of September.

Given the current state of the economy it will be fair to say the "pigs are at the trough" again.

Before the Union starts ranting and railing about not having a contract, in all union contracts in BC there is a clause whereby the current pay benefits continue until new terms are reached.
