Vernon\North Okanagan RCMP Fri Oct 01 15:24:00 PDT 2010

Members of the Vernon RCMP detachment are investigating an accident between a motorcycle and a pedestrian that happened around 12:10 this morning at the intersection of 41st St and Bella Vista. A short time before the accident being discovered police had noticed the motorcycle in the area of 30st St and 31st Ave when the officer attempted to check the driver for a Motor Vehicle infraction, it took off from the police. Our officer did not pursue the bike for safety reasons.  Our officers patrolling in the area of 41st St and Bella Vista Rd came across the accident involving the pedestrian and the motorcycle. Witnesses were on the scene when police arrived. The pedestrian was lying on the road badly injured and the driver of the bike had run from the scene, the bike involved appeared to be the same one that was spotted earlier.  The 49-year-old male victim was transported to VJH and remains in hospital with multiple serious injuries.  A 50-year-old male suspect was arrested several blocks away from the crash site a short time later he remains in custody. The Vernon RCMP are asking those witnesses that were at the scene of the accident to please contact them at 250545-7171. The officers know several people left before they could speak to them because they were dealing with the injured victim. The investigation is ongoing and they are asking all witnesses to please call our office.
