Greater Vernon politicians are looking at putting in an intake protection zone in the north arm of Kal Lake. Vernon Mayor Wayne Lippert says they're looking at how they can do it because it is critical to protect the water for the majority of residents, 75%, get their water from that source. Lippert says they have ten years of data and what is interesting is water quality is actually better now than it was in the 1950's through the 1970's. He says that's thanks to less spraying of orchards and regulations on lead in paint and fuel. Lippert says they're looking at how they can legally put in an intake protection zone in the north arm of Kal Lake.

What? Even with all the peeing off boats? We were told by a certain individual that water quality is horrible due to all the evil boats using the lake....hmmm could this person have an agenda of his own perhaps?
Let's see, a lake at the bottom of the watershed, in an agricultural valley where everything put on or in the soil makes its way to the lake and stays in sediment for decades resuspended in shallows with powerboat props, with 7000 cattle upstream on the main feeder creek with next to no source protection, with a ski resort using spray effluent on bedrock at the watershed source, with unlined sewage effluent ponds, a leaky landfill site and a biosolids plant with no hydrogeological assessment as to where the leachate goes......I doubt the water is better quality than it was 40 years ago, and I certainly wouldn't drink the stuff without reverse osmosis!
How do you explain the slime on the rocks in the lake?
Twenty years ago, even fifteen years ago this was not the case.
Imagine having a large enough swimming pool to run small motorized craft in. Don't think I'd want to swim in that water let alone drink it.
The evidence is out there re the negative effects of water craft on both water quality and flora and fauna. Period.
